Our History:

Borne from a love of embroidery the Danish Embroidery Shop builds on the success of the Danish Handcraft Guild UK, developed and run by L B Cotton from her farmhouse in the UK.

The history of embroidery stretches back millennia, with evidence being found in ancient Chinese, Egyptian and Viking cloth. Danish rural communities developed many fine and intricate techniques and designs, especially in the Hedebo area, around Copenhagen, Køge and Roskilde. The history o,f Hedebo embroidery can be studied at the Greve Museum, near Roskilde.

Today designs come in all shapes and sizes and range from traditional folk motifs to modern patterns. We have kits to suit all skill levels with ranges that include doilies, bell pulls, table cloths and cushion covers.

About LB Cotton

Born in Denmark, LB Cotton’s family moved to Zambia before she was one year old. They returned to Denmark 3 years later and settled in West Jutland.

Throughout her childhood and teenage years she spent every free moment with her ponies.

After leaving school she moved to Copenhagen where she trained and qualified as a nurse. A year later she met an English farmer who persuaded her to come to England – they married a couple years later.

Now with 2 grown up daughters, who have both left home, she has time to follow her passions - embroidery and writing.
